VIT congratulates Priyanjali Gupta, a 3rd year computer science student for successfully building an artificial intelligence model that turns sign language into English in real time. At present, the model can translate 6 ASL signs to English such as "Hello", "Thank you", "Please", "I love you", "Yes", and "No". This is an amazing feat by Priyanjali and we wish her all the success in life in all her future endeavours and wish that she continues breaking her own records.
This artificial intelligence-powered model inspired by data scientist Nicholas Renotte is built using Tensorflow object detection API because it has a whole bunch of additional capabilities which makes it a whole lot easier to build object detection models.
The code is written in python and is open source, the model can therefore be tuned according to one's respective needs. The dataset is developed manually by running the Image Collection Python file as mentioned in the student's Github repository (https://github.com/priiyaanjaalii0611/ASL_to_English).
