Hugo is a boy who lives anchored in the routine, focused on his tasks and responsibilities. Unable to look forward, he lets opportunities pass, stalling in the past. On the contrary, Cosmo is a free soul that lives without looking back, always going from one place to another no matter where. One summer afternoon their gazes cross by chance. It is only an instant, but it will be the birth of a relationship that will make them stop for the first time to live the present. An instant is a story about friendship, love and the importance of the small moments that endow our lives with meaning. DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT "An instant is my most personal project to date. It is a story in which I tried to capture how the passage of time affects our doubts and fears about opening up and expressing our feelings towards someone who attracts us. In this particular short, Hugo is unable to say the right words to Cosmo, a mysterious and charismatic guy he meets by chance. Thus, An instant is not the typical LGBT story that we have all seen a thousand times, but wants to delve into the delicate issues of friendship, desire, lost opportunities and self-deception. " Adrià Guxens -------------------- PREMIOS Noviembre 2017: Mejor Cortometraje Estudiantil Internacional en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Zaragoza (España). NOMINACIONES Febrero 2020: Des Images Aux Mots (Francia).

Adventures of the Solitary Bee, Composed, written, performed and directed by Miya Masaoka. Special thanks to Scot Duration: 8:32

vimeo

The Adventures of the Solitary Bee (1999) is a quasi documentary by Miya Masaoka. The work was part of a constellation of works in the mid to late nineties, where the artist used social insects noted for their social behavior and their natural insect sounds that strongly resemble white noise and other electronic sounds. Most of the sound and performance pieces were done in real time, with the exception of “Adventures of the Solitary Bee.” In these insect works, she uses her body as a blank canvass for the insects to explore. In "Ritual For Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches," she gives agency to the insects, as their movements trigger samples of their pre-recorded sounds and contribute to the structure and content to the piece. Around this time in the mid to late nineties, new research revealed the human body's DNA was 98% the same, and differences such as ethnicity and gender were predominantly socially constructed and insinuated upon bodies. Associated with this idea, was the personal history of the artist, whose parents and relatives along with 120,000 Japanese Americans were put in concentration camps during WW II. Japanese Americans, according to the US government, were defined to be "Japanese" based on a "blood count" of 1/16th Japanese blood. The first performance with live bees was a part of “Sound Culture,” curated by Ed Osborne in 1996. “The Bee Projects” included her bee wrangler/professional beekeeper Marc Maas, musician Scot Gresham - Lancaster, and video projections and a demonstration hive of live bees. These were performed at the Lab, a gallery space in San Francisco.

Song Dong – Collaborations – Kunsthal Aarhus 2017

vimeo

Kunsthal Aarhus presents the first solo exhibition in Denmark by leading Chinese artist Song Dong. The exhibition puts focus on forms of cooperations, family relations and geopolitics. The exhibition entitled Collaborations, transforms Kunsthal Aarhus both inside and outside and show the artist’s best-known works, as well as present new creations. Song Dong’s works have a powerful way of expressing the effects of radical change and social transformation on members of his own family; he combines the past and the present, the personal and the universal, the poetic and the political. The exhibition Collaborations is not a mono graphic show, and the title of the exhibition accentuates Song Dong’s strong interest in artistic collaboration. By also inviting the audience to be part of the collaborative processes, Song Dong opens the window to the creative process, and the exhibition can thus also be seen as a new collaboration between Song Dong and his Danish audience. Exhibition period: 1 September–29 October 2017 Opening: 1 September, 5pm The exhibition is supported by Nordea-fonden, Aarhus 2017, Statens Kunstfond & Oda og Hans Svenningsen Fond. Eating the City is also supported by Tylstrup Kager & Frima Vafler.
